    Tales of the heart

At a time when the new normal is that there is no normal, it’s only fitting that our partners at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) have gone and launched an exhibition unlike any they’ve done before, and it’s all in the name of love.

Picture this: lust and longing, drama and devotion, seduction and scandal. Sounds a bit like a recap of every episode of The Bachelor ever made, but the NPG’s Australian Love Stories exhibition might even be a little bit juicier (and definitely much less catty).

Featuring famous figures from the NPG collection, Australian Love Stories explores love in all its forms through an interactive online adventure.

Users are invited to navigate their way through the portraits and engage with the passionate stories behind them to reveal their very own ‘love score’ at the end. And unlike the love stories we see play out on TV, the NPG’s Australian Love Stories journey sees everyone leave a winner, with all participants guaranteed to finish with a rose love score.

Being the lovers of love that we are, Australian Love Stories would have to be our absolute favourite exhibition at the moment. However, Midnight Hotel’s partnership with the NPG (speaking of great love stories) means that sometimes we are lucky enough to get the inside scoop on what’s coming up next at the gallery, so there are so many other exhibitions we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time.

At the top of that list is Pub Rock which kicked off on 5 September in celebration of the people, places and sounds of Australian pub rock and its lasting impact on the nation’s culture and identity.

Regardless of whether you’re a sucker for love, a fan of pub rock, or just a general lover of the NPG like we are; you won’t regret a virtual or real-life (bookings essential) visit to the gallery this spring.
